Val Grande project

In Ensemble Advena we are researching on how a landscape shapes the mindset of the people who inhabit it, and how folk music traditions are conditioned by the type of territory they develop in.

“The secret network between human and nature” is a research project devoted to discovering the natural, cultural and musical heritage of the North Italian mountain region Val Grande. It is funded by Culture Moves Europe and is planned to take place in June 2024.

The theme of the research will be the relationship between humans and mountains – considering both anthropological, physical, psychological, religious and historical aspects.

The collaboration with the Associazione Gruppo Escursionisti Val Grande (Val Grande Hiking Group) and the Comuniterràe Participatory Project will allow us to discover the area and connect with the local inhabitants.

To explore the characteristics and collective imagination of the area, we will join group hikes, arrange interviews and “song sharings”, collecting stories, memories and songs directly from the inhabitants.

The project is based on interactions and exchange throughout the residency with the intentional goal of creating, in 2025, a site responsive performance in the mountains.
