The Rebecca Elson Project is a musical and physical performance inspired by the poetry and scientific imagination of astrophysicist Rebecca Elson (1960–1999). Her writing moves between cosmic inquiry and intimate reflection, opening a space where the vastness of galaxies and dark matter meets the fragility of human perception.
Through Elson’s texts, we explore the connections between the body, the natural world, and the universe—asking how our sensory experience relates to phenomena that lie far beyond our physical reach. The project combines field recordings from natural environments with a body-centered compositional method, translating concrete sensations into melodic and atmospheric material.
Songs composed from Elson’s poems intertwine with immersive soundscapes, creating a dramaturgy that moves between science and emotion, precision and wonder. The performance becomes an invitation to experience awe as a creative force: a way of listening, feeling, and imagining our place within the cosmos.
